About Abri

Abri Credit Union is a full service financial institution that opened as "Argonne Credit Union" in 1949 with a group of Argonne National Laboratory employees. Since 2003 Abri has had a community charter to service the residents and businesses in Will, DuPage and portions of Cook counties. In 2010, Abri expanded its community charter to include Grundy and portions of Kendall and Kane counties as a result of a merger with Prairie Trail Credit Union.

Abri was opened to serve as a better option than a bank, as it is owned by its depositors, known as members. Profits are used to increase member benefits, such as lower loan rates, higher dividend rates, and reduced fees. By maintaining the credit union "people helping people" philosophy, Abri has built a base of over 27,000 members and continues to add innovative products and services to better meet their needs. Abri's assets are over $300 million dollars and it is one of the largest credit unions in Illinois. With this kind of financial strength, Abri continues to grow by building solid relationships with its members and the areas it serves. While we are proud of our success, we are ready to take our business to the next level. We are poised to branch out into more communities to offer residents the many benefits of Abri membership.

Why the Abri Board is Right for you...

We make a difference in our members' lives

Abri is a not-for-profit cooperative. Policy matters are set by a board elected annually from the membership at large.  Unlike most financial institutions, our members are owners, so we operate with their best interests in mind.  This is apparent when you see the product offerings, rates, and services that our members receive.  At Abri, it's not about selling financial products.  It's about building relationships, and providing an extraordinary value in the process.

The decisions we make directly impact the communities we serve

As we open new locations, we not only want to grow Abri, but also have a positive impact on the surrounding area.  After all, when the community is thriving, our members are happier. The question is "What can Abri Credit Union do to make your community a better place to live?" You can help answer this question.  From policy development to strategic planning, this is your chance to achieve further personal and professional growth while addressing the financial needs of your community.

Being an Abri Credit Union Director Takes Real Commitment

Because you may have to attend one or more evening meetings a month (in person or via phone), please consider carefully whether this would create a conflict with your personal or professional life.  Serving on the Board of Abri Credit Union is a serious responsibility and requires frequent effort outside of the monthly meetings. We seek candidates with special talents and the utmost integrity who get along well with people, display common sense, and are willing to work hard to help others.
